when I came to usa first and I was still discovering the treasures I was introduced to public library a few furlongs away from where I lived. I started borrowing books and dvds. among them books and films were sf and Tibet.
Dalai lama is 14th or 15th incarnation and in existence for more than 500 years. he is among many truths that we see in our day to day life like sun rising everyday bringing us light. the story is unbelievable that once attained dalai lama credential he has no option but continue to be so.
over the years I have heard dalai lama many times. he does not answer the question of nirvana but sidesteps the same. in fact he does not claim but something very rare can be seen him. his compassion for all including communist party of china and his respect for chairman Mao with whom he spent more than two years.
dalai lama has no pains if nirvana means that
he is not suffering
I just ordered about dozen more material on Tibet from library
