screen saver
cosmetics can make impression that perhaps is ever lasting memory
about thirty years back I borrowed a mac to see microsoft works in function. I was not able to achieve the apparent fast response mac could produce with word processor
where did I go wrong
in order to be fast I carried metrics characters for line for line
this made scrolling faster
however insertion or deletion did not happen as fast as i typed
works in mac was clever
as i hit insert or delete key and kept pressing
it created a gap in the screen
making two part
one part does not change depending on the direction
it just did not bother about the constant part but only displaying or removing characters the string is changing without bothering about formating till there is pause say for a second at least
then displayed the content in the visible screen
I learnt a lesson of cleverness to delay computation till user is finished with fast driving to be observant of broader perception of whole
this borrowed had a screensaver
after perceiving all quiet for say one minute or so
it would start a rippling effect
a part of of the screen bulge slightly up as if the screen is a rubber screen and display shall get distorted
this distortion would move around the screen in a random walk
i could not figure out how it was done
of course it was playing exclusively with the display memory transitioning from correct display
the other day I figured it out
from current vortex of the wave, select x y random say within distance c
shift vortex and recalculate distortion for each point within the circle c radius around x y
the other i was discussing about raghu my inconvenience computer or any handheld reading device
i prefer a book
often i print out the book
i enjoy the comfort of reading a book while lying down and the book falling of my sleepy hands
however i am running out of space
it is difficult to find place where i could leave my books
the other day i donated about 40 bengali books to columbus library
i asked if i could donate 100 technical books on computer
she was not very happy
i have to pursue the topic another day
