economics of happiness

money makes many happy. money does not make me happy anymore. in this twilight years i am not very sure if my extended lifetime shall make me happy. i find buying itself is very bothersome. often i have to plan in advance. my first hardle is to go outdoor. i need dress for outdoor. i must remember what i am going to buy. often after reaching the store i do not remember what i came to buy. the shopping list too is forgotten or i cannot find it. for hours i stroll stores to find out what i need.

instead i wait and postpone my necessities till it is absolutely essential. lately i discovered all urgencies can wait. necessities are not necessarily necessity. better does not make anymore sense. surprisingly writing rubbish makes lot of sense to me. i am happy living in my atmosphere of unhappiness. my world as such is not happy place for me. when i write my rubbish, my darkness lifts and i find myself comfortable with my unhappiness.

my eye doctor told me if i remove my cataract in right eye then i shall see better. i am not very much inconvenienced by my eye. i still can read and write. night driving can be gloomy. it is comfortable to stay at home instead of roaming the street and forgetting the purpose of my being outside. i forgot what i wished to write. it is about economics of happiness.

i had pleasure of studying rather not studying economics for four years. i deservedly earned lowest marks in my class and passing marks only. i did not understand indian economics data sheets distributed to us and my teacher making his explanations. that he himself only understood. why indian economics days after days year after year does not any difference to any indian, he never cared to explain. data can explain anything and one can be self satisfied; but can data be used to improve well beings or better life for anyone? my teachers had no idea.

i realized slowly but surely that unless investment is done on primary resource; there is no reason for upliftment of well being of people in indian economy. how can one contribute being unhealthy and starving right from the birth. if food is not the most important thing for starving indians, then what is? they have to be given food and work to create plenty of food seasons after seasons. I asked myself why that never is done in Indian Economy. Why there is no data showing any investment in agriculture and farm workers?

many years ago i was driving through illinois and it was summer. my car was navigating endless ocean of greens, nothing but many shades of green, hours after hour nothing changing. i exclaimed loudly; my passenger sitting next to me, informed me that it was so nearly 100 years ago; when rabindranath thakur came to illinois. there and then he decided to educate his son rathin in agriculture engineering. after his education rabindranath gave rathin shilaidaha to practice what he learnt in illinois and teach the peasants about agriculture, technology, soil engineering, manuring, cultivation, crop selection, cropping pattern and farming, and seed engineering to make earth productive and make agricultural farmers healthy and wealthy just as in USA. Education has to be used  towards poverty alleviation of people who are all dependent on agriculture. This can be done every seasons; and three times in a year. No long term planning is required! Indian farmers remained poor unhealthy forever even after 75 years of independence; and they constitute 75% of Indians! Today they are committing suicide, debt ridden; crowding cities and adding to filthy unhealthy; creating over congestion and struggling for existence.

despite all the economics my school were practicing and teaching; despite all the economists from my school manning the indian planning commission; nothing changed in indian economics for 75 years. our economists must have been wrong optimizing whatever they were trying to optimize. definitely it did not have to do anything about health wealth and education of Indians. each indian's net worth depreciated everyday. what is net worth of india, if not indians!

for about two years i was engaged in developing economy of a catchment area harnessing a river water that was flowing to sea from the beginning of time. it was truly lot of engineering planning economy development that should last for many centuries if done thoughtfully and carefully. i was told in advance bad water resources planning had already resulted in unusable soil and high salinity in huge area. It is lot of efforts to reclaim the same that would take years and expenditure. I set my mind to optimizing well being of people and overall development of all ~ industry distribution education farming production transport and infrastructure .... Lot could be achieved in planned development by computer simulation of river canal ground water utilization keeping 100 years perspective for planned development. it is systematic usage of water not wasted in arabian sea or flooding.

i did not get beyond pass mark in economics and i found my teachers were all frauds. they did not know anything except that they were using mathematics or statistics wrongly to conclude whatever they were convinced should be the result. What is meant by macro economics they did not know? They were parrots reading out notes from some western economists books. Nothing relevant to India and macro economics of India. Later i came to know statistics is worse than damn lie. Data of their samples had a multiplier. That they would manipulate to get their intuition right and confirmed by statistical analysis. they were all interested to prove their brilliance in the rest of the world; where they thought their prosperity and fame exist. nothing to do with india or indians.

One teacher of economics gave me A. he taught microeconomics. he believed in economics of happiness. his pass mark is 40 out of 50. he preferred to give everybody 50 if he could. he was teaching the relationship between supply demand price. he never used numbers data or statistics; but he drew curves ~ convex concave to depict their interdependencies. while i was attending his lectures, i used to wonder looking out of the class, the pond and coconut trees;  how without any knowledge of curve or interdependencies of supply demand price microeconomics, the wholesaler in Bara Bazar in Calcutta nearby, makes enormous profit by hoarding bribing adding inedibles in food grains and oil ... They are wealthy beyond imagination and dictates Law and lawmakers and controls all three independently ~ supply demand price ..... All at the expense of the consumer in the rest of Calcutta. They remain poor sick and starving; and their future would not change by this teacher's lectures.  My microeconomics teacher made everyone of us very happy teaching nonsense. he was a retired old man belonging to some other institution. he used to cross 25 miles in bus, the entire city of Calcutta to make us happy with our marks, gauging our progress in microeconomics.

i have met many teachers since then besides economics but in statistics; who taught subjects knowing nothing, not even elementary mathematics; or the premise or preconditions for the theories to have some resemblance with reality; and they were emeritus teachers; not at all understandable to even themselves. they practiced the same principle of distributing grade A or A* to make not only their students happy but also keep their university bosses very happy with their mastery of their knowledge and scholarship.

it is the secret of their existence and their lifelong economic prosperity.
