Adi shankara
There is no recorded history for Purana authors Veda Vyasa and Valmiki. It is only extempore and it is written for the purpose dissemination in local vernacular for contemporaries; and them survive thus without being read from originals.
I have reading writing abilities in some vernacular but not Sanskrit the original poetry was written many thousand years ago.
The idea was to envelop entire subcontinent or Indus Ganges valley into believing a purpose life and destiny to a superlative consciousness of oneself.

However, Adi Sankaracharya, very strong intellectual unparallel, rediscovered all Puranas and Veda Vedanta Upanishads Brahma Sutras from Sanskrit singularly alone. He commented on them with a very sharp eyes so that in cannot be misinterpreted ever again. His boldness is unparalleled. He not only transformed society wherever he went, he retrieved them from charlatan and black magicians and temple priests whoever living on simplicity of mass believers and rituals without merit.
He survived from poisoning and uncooperativeness from his own people! India subcontinent still under the culture that is being looted by temples and priests. They are treasure troves and parallel taxing system while India is poorest of poor country and 75% of its people suffer from malnutrition poisoned unclean water without proper sewerage system and latrines. India is overpopulated.

I was moved reading Shankara's mother's funeral. He had to perform it at his home alone with no help from anyone in his village. He did not leave it that. Having accomplished alone - he by force of logic influenced upon his own clan to perform the same ritual at their home premise for subsequent deaths. Certainly he had the power to overwhelm all intellects he came across. He died at the age of 32 at the upper reach of Kedarnath. For 16 years he traveled on foot to every corner of the continent and established to the purity of living. He wrote volumes on one topic alone. Truth and its manifestation.
Truth can be reached any if one is persistent about reaching the same. Truth is not ambiguas. Perceivable. It is absence of oneself. Realisable. One does not need. One is more than sufficient.
Truth realization is must for any born human.
I think I know how sankara disappeared at the age of 32. He was keeping his commitment to himself for 16 years. He was leaving on borrowed times to recover Vedanta for those who will to disappear.
